Wind measurement and wind resource assessment services

Our wind analysis team can prospect for potential sites, establish project timeline, implement and manage a successful wind data acquisition program, provides turbine micro-siting and layout optimization services and estimating the annual energy production of the wind farm. Also, all necessary accompanying services could be included. INITIAL ASSESSMENT OF THE WIND RESOURCE AT A POTENTIAL SITE The objective is to provide the Client with a preliminary assessment of the project area wind potential. It is based on a site visits by wind energy experts from Fractal d.o.o. and analyses of available short and long term wind data for the area (WindPro). A digital 3D terrain model of the site is established and an energy map for the site established using industry standard computer climate models (WAsp or CFD/WindSim). The energy map is used basis for a preliminary micro-siting using plant design package (WindFarmer). Complete cartography (topographic maps, cadastre maps, vectorization, googleearth interaction, GIS, etc.) is also included. Work included: - Site visit and terrain assessment - Provision of topographic and cadastre maps, geocoding and vectorization - Establishment of a digital 3D terrain model - Acquiring and analysis of all available wind data (short term, long term) - Establishment of an energy map for the site - Identifying additional constraints for the project (Client & authorities meeting) - Selection of appropriate WTGs - Micro-siting of wind turbines with optimization - Estimation of preliminary annual energy production range - Providing necessary data for Environmental study, including visualization, noise calculation, flickers etc. WIND MEASUREMENT CAMPAIGN A high-quality site wind speed measurement campaign is of crucial importance in reducing the uncertainty in the predicted energy production of a proposed wind farm project. On-site good quality measurements covering a period of typically 12 months are needed. Fractal will propose met mast site selection with appropriate site and type and a measuring set-up in accordance with IEC61400-12 or similar guidelines. Fractal will coordinate and supervise the installation and perform equipment configuration. After the installation is completed an detailed installation report will be produced . Data should be retrieved and processed on a regularly basis and monthly data summary reports will be issued. Work included:
- Site visit for mast siting - Planning application for mast - Equipment specification - Equipment supply (if agreed) - Installation and commissioning of measuring equipment - Compilation of a “Installation report” - Regular retrieval of data, and monthly and summary reporting - Equipment and data retrieval system monitoring and maintenance
WIND RESOURCE AND ANNUAL ENERGY YIELD ASSESSMENT The objective is to provide the Client with a wind resource and annual energy yield assessment. Based on the on-site data and available long term reference data, the long term wind conditions for the site are established using MCP techniques. Furthermore the extreme wind and climate conditions are estimated. The objective of this work is to optimize the micro-siting of the turbines from an overall feasibility point of view and to estimate the associated annual energy production (AEP) for selected WTGs (based on technical guidelines, part 6 / TR6 of the committee wind potential by the Federation of German Windpower - FGW ). Work included: - Site visit and terrain assessment (if necessary) - Establishment of a (final) digital 3D terrain model including a detailed roughness mapping and all significant local obstacles - On-site measurement data quality assessment, validation and analysis - Long term reference data quality assessment and statistical analysis - Long term prediction using standard Measure Correlate Predict (MCP) method - Production of the final long term wind atlas - Estimation of the extreme wind and climate conditions - Establishing the uncertainties in accordance with IEC61400-12 - Wind flow modeling and generating the site wind energy map (WaSP or CFD/WindSim) - Wind farm layout optimization (WindFarmer) - Proposal of final micro-siting and Client corrections/approval - Estimation of the annual energy production (AEP) including array and other losses and calculation of transgression probability |
