Basis of PowerCAD is that it is a graphic module that allows simple graphical interface in defining the network topology, propounding data, changing the configuration and view of the analysis results.

As part of the software package PowerCAD is a module with the appropriate database, which can serve as an independent basis or as a liaison with existing databases - data about the elements of the network.

POWERCAD software package is developed with the aim to enable the user, regardless of the level of his knowledge in mathematical models and software techniques for the analysis, fast and easy to use with a comfortable graphical interface. Software package can be installed on a networked computer or independently.

The preparation of the network configuration (plants) are fully graphical, by selecting appropriate elements, their spacing by the screen and connecting to local buses. Each element of the EES can be defined as turned on or off (the line unilaterally and bilaterally), so it is possible rapid analysis of various on / off state of the network.

Entering data on the elements is done by using the appropriate window (frame) that provide a quick operation and eventual corrections.

Network analysis can be made on meaningful the defined network, which the program checks to himself. Parameters for numerical modeling (eg, accuracy) can propose or leave already set (default) values. Enabled is a simple configuration changes and all the parameters of the EES, and thus a quick insight into the changes of appropriate size (voltage, power flows, electricity, etc.). .

After the analysis results can be displayed:

• graphic (eg display voltage calculated by buses, the default view of exceeding the limit elements of the network, etc.)
• text (a report on voltage, power flows, currents, losses, and other compute the data, as well as the entrance parameters network)

All input and output data (graphic and text) can be directly sent to the printer, the text processor, or via clipboard and transferred to a different application windows.
